The Certificate in Sustainable Energy Systems is design for students that have a variety of experiences in the construction industry that requires energy to supply the construction materials, build the infrastructure, and maintain new and existing built environments. Learners without prior employment will work with the industry placement advisor who maintains a roster of placement opportunities with our strategic partners and provides learners with direction and assistance in the development of resumés and job search techniques. Classroom education and on the job education are interspersed throughout the duration of the program. The course portion of the program will be delivered onsite at Medicine Hat College in a blended format (hybrid-flexible) including offerings during evenings and weekends. This program is designed for the student who enjoys facing and solving problems with a challenging spirit who want to drive innovation in organizations by leveraging evidence-based decision-making models. Students will get hands-on experience with a variety of elements in our built environment that influence how we use energy. With energy being a critical element of an ecosystem, the students learning experiences will form critical decision-making tools that will support organizations and decision-makers. Learners will gain a broad understanding with the technologies associated with energy systems and trained to be skilled systems thinkers with the ability to continually assess and evaluate current energy systems. They will be trained to apply the local codes and conditions, social, political and economic factors that strengthen or limit various energy supply options.
