“I was educated outside of Canada. Where can I have my international education assessed?”

Answer

There are many reasons to have your international education assessed. For example, you may be looking for work, applying to study in Canada, or applying for a professional certificate or licence.

Some Canadian colleges and universities will assess your educational credentials for you. However, each institution has its own rules. Contact your chosen school directly to find out about specific requirements. You may need to provide documents or transcripts (translated to English or French) so your Canadian school can assess your credentials from your home country.

In some cases, you may need to use a Canadian assessment service that can:

§  Assess your international credentials

§  Help you get original documents or transcripts from the country where you studied

§  Translate documents into English or French

The following fee-based services are members of the Alliance of Credential Evaluation Services of Canada:

§  International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS is a Government of Alberta service that is widely used by post-secondary schools and employers in the province.)

§  Comparative Education Service

§  International Credential Assessment Service of Canada

§  International Credential Evaluation Service

§  Ministère de l'Immigration, de la Francisation et Intégration du Québec

§  World Education Services Canada

Important tips for using a credential assessment service

1.   Use a trusted assessment service that is a member of the Alliance of Credential Evaluation Services of Canada.

2.   Before you get an assessment, make sure that your school, employer, or regulatory authority requires one. And make sure they will accept an assessment report issued by your chosen assessment service.
