Save Lives with Your Career This Primary Care Paramedic program offers a rewarding and challenging career for individuals interested in providing emergency medical services to the sick and injured in a prehospital care environment. This is an entry-level medical program that gives you the hands-on training you need to provide emergency medical services to the sick and injured. Using a combination of simulation training, practicum placements inactive treatment hospitals, training in advanced life support ambulance services and experience working with other allied health professionals,the Primary Care Paramedic program can get you started on the path to becoming an advanced care paramedic. Admission Requirements

General Admissions Requirements

All applicants must meet the general admission requirements for Lethbridge College programs, as indicated in the Admission section of this calendar.

Academic Requirements 

In addition to meeting the general admission requirements indicated in the Admission section of this calendar, applicants must also satisfy the following specific course requirements (or equivalencies): 

  • English 30-1 or 30-2 
  • Math 20-1 or Math 20-2 
  • Biology 30 or Science 30 
  • English Language Proficiency

Non-Academic Requirements

  • Successful completion of Medical First Responder program. Students who are enrolled in the Emergency Medical Responder program by the application deadline but have not yet completed the program must submit proof of enrollment by the application deadline.
  • 18 Years of age - Students must turn 18 years of age prior to the program start date. A copy of a government-issued ID must be submitted.
  • CPR-C (Basic Life Support - BLS) - Students must provide evidence of current BLS certification for entry into the program, and remain current throughout clinical training. 

Note: Applicants who lack the academic admission requirements can apply to the Academic Upgrading program

Prior Learning Assessment (PLA): If you have  experience working in this field of study, you may be eligible for Prior Learning Assessment.


Application Deadline

New applicants are accepted into the Primary Care Paramedic program for Winter (January) term.   


Student Aid

This program is eligible for full-time post-secondary assistance by Alberta Student Aid for the funding year 2024/08/01 to 2025/07/31*.

  • Tuition $6,750.00 Year One
  • Books/Supplies/Instruments $2,000.00 Year One
  • Mandatory Fees $953.00 Year One

* Tuition, books, supplies, instruments, and other/mandatory fees are provided to Alberta Student Aid and may be used when processing full-time post-secondary funding applications. The educational costs provided are based on a 100% full-course load and may not reflect current or all educational costs charged by the school. Contact the school to obtain accurate educational cost information.
