Our immersive Primary Care Paramedic program is for those seeking to establish a career in pre-hospital emergency care. Under the guidance of seasoned professionals, this program provides a comprehensive curriculum that equips you with the skills needed to become an integral member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team. As a student, you will: acquire a thorough understanding of pre-hospital emergency care learn to perform detailed patient evaluations learn to interpret various diagnostic tools develop the skills to perform critical interventions and treatments become proficient in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS) and International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) participate in simulations in our state-of-the-art Centre for Advanced Patient Care Simulation and Advanced Ambulance Simulation labs obtain real-world experience in hospital, urgent care and ambulance settings under the mentorship of experienced preceptors focus on developing the competencies required for effective emergency response and patient care. This program is offered entirely on campus or in a blended delivery format. In blended delivery, theory courses are primarily online, while labs are on campus. Both delivery modes offer the same curriculum and require full-time study. As a graduate, you will have the confidence and qualifications to respond to a wide range of medical emergencies as a first responder, providing high-quality patient care in dynamic and challenging environments. Admission Requirements

At least 50% in each of the following courses or their equivalents:

  • Math 20-1 or Math 20-2 or Pure Math 20 or Applied Math 20,
  • English Language Arts 30-1 or English Language Arts 30-2,
  • Biology 30 or Science 30*
  • All applicants must demonstrate English Language Proficiency prior to admission, including students educated in Canada.
  • Students must be 18 years old by January 1 (second semester of the PCP program).
  • Proof of completion of an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certificate or a medical sciences-related diploma or degree or equivalent.

SAIT accepts high school course equivalents for admission. If you don’t meet the requirements, consider Academic Upgrading.

SAIT evaluates international documents for admissions. After you’ve applied, consider our international document assessment service if your education is from outside of Canada.

* ANPH 209 (Anatomy and Physiology) can be used in place of the Biology 30 or Science 30 requirement. This course is available through Continuing Education.


Student Aid

This program is eligible for full-time post-secondary assistance by Alberta Student Aid for the funding year 2024/08/01 to 2025/07/31*.
