Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements: Must be 18 years of age, with 60% in English 30-1 or 70% in English 30-2 or an assessed English equivalency.

Other Requirements: Students who meet the academic requirements will be mailed an information and forms package and asked to present the following:  Personal Written Statement and Employment/work history/education (i.e. Resume). Relevant volunteer experience would be an asset. All post-secondary transcripts must accompany application in order to fulfill requirements for application.

Students will be required to provide information regarding their criminal record check to the program coordinator following their acceptance to the program. This is required to facilitate the placement of students in appropriate field placements. Field placement agencies may require a Criminal Record Check and an Intervention Record Check of students placed in their organizations. The inability to present clear checks may mean a student may not be able to complete the requirements of the program. Contact the program coordinator for further information. It is strongly recommended that students who enter this program have basic computer skills (the ability to use the Internet, email and a word processor). Students without basic computer skills will be encouraged to attend a computer skills workshop prior to the start of the program. If English is a second Language, students must complete a skills appraisal assessment.

Distance Delivery Options

The program is offered to selected campuses using a mix of distributed delivery strategies. These include: - internet based programs e.g. Moodle & Blackboard Collaborate - instructor led face-to-face classes - on-site tutorial support - self-directed study - field/practicum placements The distributed delivery methods allow the student to pursue their educational goals at the campuses in selected communities. Students in the program may have to move for short periods of time to another community in order to complete their practicum placements. Costs incurred for this are the responsibility of the student. During the program, students may periodically be expected to travel to another campus for face-to-face classes to facilitate the learning of particular skills or participate in interactive activities. Costs incurred for this travel are the responsibility of the student. Note: Classes are usually scheduled in 3-hour blocks once per week.
