Youth: If You’re Pregnant or Parenting

Are you expecting or parenting a child? Keep your career goals on track with supports, funding, and school programs to help you and your child.

Pregnancy and parenting can be wonderful experiences. When you and your little one are healthy and supported, these experiences are even better.

What kind of health care is there for me and my baby?

Your health is always important. It’s even more important when you’re taking care of your baby or child.

Prenatal care is the care you receive before the birth of your baby. Prenatal care is about taking care of your health and your baby’s health and growth. A prenatal care provider can help you:

  • Get information, support and resources to give your baby the best possible start in life
  • Stay healthy throughout pregnancy and birth

Antenatal care is the care you and your baby receive after the birth of your baby. Antenatal care ensures that:

  • You recover from giving birth
  • Your baby grows and develops normally in the first few months

Where can I get support?

You can get prenatal and antenatal care through your own doctor. Or try the following places, which all offer a variety of information, resources, support, programs, and health care:

Can I stay in school if I’m pregnant or parenting?

Yes. You deserve the chance to continue your education. The schools listed here offer junior and senior high school classes. They also offer services ranging from housing to parenting support. These services are geared towards helping you and your baby.

You may be able to find more school options and support through your local school board. Check out the Alberta School Boards Association for contact information.
