There are a number of life influences that affect our personal traits.

Traits Quiz

Traits are the behaviours and characteristics you bring to an occupation and a workplace that make you who you are. Examples of traits include dependability, flexibility, curiosity, respect for others, cheerfulness and self-reliance.

These are:

• Gender identity
• Class/race/ethnic/cultural background
• Sexual orientation
• Disability - visible or invisible
• Surrounding conditions
• Learning experiences

By thinking about how these factors have influenced us, we can gain some insight into personal traits that can be very important assets. For example, a man enrolled in a nursing program or a woman apprenticing as an electrician may have to deal with stereotypes associated with their work roles. Traits such as determination, perseverance, and a strong sense of identity will be very valuable to them.
