Learn Why Training is a Good Idea ✓ Easy Reading

Who needs training? Almost everyone! If you want to be good at your job, you need training.

Imagine that it’s lunchtime. Your lunch is in a bag. It’s full of delicious things you want to eat. You are tired from standing at your job all morning. Then you see a chair. You sit down in the chair to enjoy your delicious lunch.

Training is like the chair. It will support you when you need it. Training is a good idea because it will help prepare you for the job you want. Your training will help you do your job well.

Let’s find out how training helps.

Training helps you go back to work

Some people work, but then they stop for a while. For example, they move to a new place.

Or they stay at home with their children. Or their parents need help.

When people are ready to go back to work, they have their old skills. But maybe they have forgotten some things. Or maybe their old job is different. Or maybe the tasks in their job have changed. They will need training to come back to work.

Training makes you feel ready

When you learn new skills, you feel good about yourself. You feel confident. You feel ready for the job.

Training builds your resumé

A resumé tells an employer about you. It tells the employer what skills and experience you have.

Employers like to hire workers who have lots of skills. If you take training, you will have more skills. You can write these skills on your resumé.

Training helps you find a job faster

Some employers need workers right away. If you already have skills, employers will look at you first. They won’t need to train you, so they may hire you right away.

Training helps you keep your job

The world changes every day. There are new ways to do things. For example, new safety rules and ways to do the job. There are new tools to work with. For example, smartphones and computers. These new tools can change your job tasks. Training gives you the new skills you need.

Training helps you get the job you want

You may already have a job. But this job may not be the job you really want. It may not be interesting. Or it may not pay well. But if you learn more skills, you can move to the job you want at your place of work. Or you can find a job you like at a new company.

Training moves with you

You can learn skills in one place and take them to a new place. For example, you could help build a playground near your home. It will take many days. You may learn to use a hammer or a power drill while building the playground. You can list these new skills on your resumé:

  • I can follow instructions.
  • I can use my hands.
  • I can use building tools.

The skills you learn can move with you to another job. These skills transfer to a new job.

Now let’s think about why you want training. Let’s think about your goals. It's time to make a plan to reach your training goals.
